The Locations Foundation Sponsors a Habitat for Humanity Build Day

On Saturday, June 23, 2007, Locations Foundation members will help
transform the interior of the Frank Family’s new home.

HONOLULU (June 20, 2007) –On Saturday, June 23, 2007, in partnership with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity, the Locations Foundation will sponsor a build day to assist with completion of a newly rebuilt home in Papakolea. 

During the all day event, Prudential Locations agents – all of whom have pledged 1 percent of their annual income to the Locations Foundation to go toward community projects such as this – will assist with painting walls and other interior work on the home.

The Locations Foundation will also be presenting Honolulu Habitat for Humanity’s Board President, Ron Montgomery, with a check of $5,000 to sponsor the first home the organization builds in 2008. The donation is being made in the name of the Frank Family whose home the foundation is working on. 

This event is especially meaningful for the Locations Foundation – the issues of affordable housing and homelessness are ones Prudential Locations agents and staff care deeply about and feel connected to during their work each day.

“As real estate agents, our job is to help people find their dream homes.  But with the lack of affordable housing in Hawaii, many families are struggling just to find decent shelter,” said Kelly Mitchell, Locations Foundation event chairperson and Prudential Locations agent. “The Locations Foundation deeply admires the work of Honolulu Habitat for Humanity and wanted to find a way to champion their cause.”

In Hawaii, there are more than 96,000 families like the Franks who live in unsatisfactory conditions or have no home at all.  With average home prices above $600,000, the need for affordable housing is a pressing issue in the islands.

The Locations Foundations’ Habitat for Humanity event is just a one example of what local businesses and organizations can do to help with Hawaii’s housing crisis.   This past February, Locations Foundations members assisted Honolulu Habitat for Humanity with raising community awareness about the organization’s neighbor education events.  Volunteers went door-to-door in Waimanalo and Papakolea distributing flyers which explained to residents how they could qualify and apply for a Habitat for Humanity home.
